Sakpatenti plans to conclude an agreement on cooperation with Amazon, Ebay, Alibaba and Rakuten within the EU funded Twinning Project on “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia” (GE/16 ENI EC 0318). The above-mentioned issue was discussed during the 7th meeting of the Steering Committee of the Project, held on March 30, 2021.
Within the EU funded Twinning Project on “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia” (GE/16 ENI EC 0318), Sakpatenti starts working for registration of two new geographical indications. The issue was discussed on the 7th meeting of the Steering Committee of the Project, held on March 30, 2021.
Sakpatenti is giving possibility to any person interested in intellectual property field to take part in general course on intellectual property through distance learning, free of charge and in Georgian language, also to obtain international certificate and to further continue studying at other specialized courses of World Intellectual Property Organization if they wish to.
The National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia SAKPATENTI has published a Practice Paper concerning the criteria for assessing disclosure of designs on the internet and to provide recommendations thereof.
Sakpatenti and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) start cooperation to improve the intellectual property rights enforcement system in creative industries. To this end, on March 25, 2021, Mr. Mindia Davitadze, Chairman of National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, and Mr. Mark McCord, USAID Economic Security Program Chief of Party, signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
Within the training activities developed by Sakpatenti, the Training Centre of the Office organized a working meeting on copyright for staff members of the Georgian National University (SEU). The comprehensive training, specially created for the target group, covers all important issues related to copyright, knowledge of which will assist SEU in lawful use of copyrighted works.
In order to define GI products in the Achara region, Mr. Mindia Davitadze, Sakpatenti Chairman, met with Mr. Giorgi Surmanidze, Minister of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Achara. It is the initiative of Sakpatenti, following Acharuli Chlechili and Machakhela Honey, to add to the State Register of Geographical Indications other Acharan products with the specific quality, characteristics and reputation.
Sakpatenti and the Mediators Association of Georgia start cooperation on popularization of the intellectual property field and mediation. To this end, today, Mr. Mindia Davitadze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia - Sakpatenti, and Mr. Irakli Qandashvili, Chairman of the Mediators Association of Georgia, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.
On March 15-18, 2021, with the involvement of international partners, a seminar is being held to raise awareness on collective management organizations of economic rights of authors in Georgia. Workshop, organized by the Commercial Law Development Program of the U.S. Department of Commerce and with the support of the U.S. Embassy to Georgia, is attended by Sakpatenti staff members, patent attorneys, collective management organizations and other parties interested in this topic.
“Training of Trainers in Intellectual Property Law” is a new project of the Training Centre of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti. It is aimed to train law students, lawyers and teachers and give them the qualification of intellectual property law trainers.
