LEPL National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti applied to the European Commission Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development and requested prevention of unauthorized use of the appellation of origin of Georgian wine “Kakheti” (Kakhuri) as well as the geographical indication of Georgian cheese “Sulguni”.
On August 2, 2017, within the Literature and Art Competition “Tbilisi”, Memorandums of Understanding were signed between National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, Georgian Copyright Association and Tbilisi City Municipal Assembly.
On July 31, 2017, Exhibition “Georgia – Cradle of Wine” opened at the “Wine Civilization Centre” in Bordeaux, France. The great honor of opening the cycle of exhibitions on viticulture and winemaking is due to the centuries-old tradition of planting vineyards and viticulture in Georgia, as well as carried out state policy which has facilitated popularization and demonstration of Georgian wine on the international level. National Intellectual Property Centre of the Georgia Sakpatenti is a co-organizer of this significant event, and, within its competence, in cooperation with other state agencies, is actively involved in the process of organization of the event. Mrs. Sophio Mujiri, Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti and Mrs. Natia Popkhadze, Head of Public Relations and Mass Media Section, are attending the opening of the exhibition.
On July 28, 2017, participants of European Law Students Association (ELSA) summer school visited Sakpatenti head office. Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze delivered a lecture on the activities and functions of the center. Summer school students attended the formal examination process and received information on the particularities of work at the center based on practical examples. At the end of the event, students were granted certificates of participation at ELSA Summer School on Intellectual Property Law.
On July 24, 2017, the Summer School on Intellectual Property Law opened, organized by the European Law Students Association (ELSA) and Sakpatenti, during which 40 students from 14 European Union countries will attend a one-week academic study course on “Intellectual property Law”.
On 20 July, 2017, 3rd International Conference “Georgia Against Counterfeiting and Piracy” was opened in Batumi, aiming to enhance a dialog against counterfeiting between public and private sector, ensuring effective coordination amongst different agencies towards IPR enforcement mechanism and sharing experience of foreign countries.
On July 20th 2017, in Batumi a meeting was held between Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze, Chairman of National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia SAKPATENTI and Mr. He Zhimin, Deputy Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China ( SIPO).
On July 13, 2017, the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of the People’s Republic of China (SAIC) registered the appellation of origin of Georgian mineral water “Nabeghlavi”.
Today, on July 10, 2017, a technical visit of Sakpatenti delegation started to Alicante (Spain). The visit is aimed at transition to the next stage of EUIPO and Sakpatenti electronic management system development and integration.
Today, on July 7, 2017, Sakpatenti representatives are holding a meeting with Georgian entrepreneurs to introduce to them the importance of intellectual property for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The meeting taking place at the "Rooms Hotel Tbilisi" aims to assist entrepreneurs in drafting an intellectual property management portfolio, which will facilitate increasing competitiveness of Georgian companies and creating economic value in the form of intangible assets .
